Hey, I’m Mina Louise!
I graduated from Fort Street High School in 2018, where I achieved Band 6 results in English (Advanced), English Extension 1 and English Extension 2, in addition to Modern History. I’m currently studying a double Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Advanced Studies (Politics and International Relations) at the University of Sydney, which I absolutely love - and choosing my degree was very closely linked to my experience at high school and the teachers I had. I found that the subjects I did best in were by far the ones I enjoyed the most, and it's a personal goal of mine to introduce my students to a really exciting side of English that can potentially further their own interests in literature and writing.
My approach to tutoring focuses on building that solid base that essay-writing subjects demand, and improving students’ confidence by providing them with rich insights and highly-personalised feedback. A beautiful feature of English is the highly transferable nature of the skills taught in the subject, such as creative thought and analytical expression, and their tendency to coalesce with and aid other courses as well. I’m patient and very approachable, and also have experience teaching students with dyslexia, and volunteering with children and teenagers on the autism spectrum.
In my spare time, I enjoy reading, trying to convince my friends and family to a (very competitive) game of chess, and going on lockdown (and post-lockdown) walks.
