How & Why To Get An
Australian Business Number (ABN)

What is an ABN?

An Australian Business Number (ABN) is a means for the Australian Government to identify you as a sole trader for various tax and other business purposes.

Why do I need an ABN?

Evolutionary Tutors hires each of its tutors as an Independent Contractor rather than an employee. Importantly, this means that you as the Contractor have full responsibility for paying any relevant taxes associated with the income you make through working for Evolutionary Tutors. Further details around the relationship between Evolutionary Tutors and you as a Contractor is set out at clause 7 of the Agreement.

Please note that the personal income tax-free threshold is currently $18,200. This means that if you do not earn above $18,200 in the financial year, you will not be taxed by the Australian Taxation Office (ATO).

Please also note that superannuation contributions are voluntary for sole traders, and we are not required to withhold superannuation on your behalf. You are only required to register for GST if your gross income exceeds $75,000 in the financial year.

How do I obtain an ABN?

You can apply for an ABN online without charge from the Australian Business Register.

The details you provide in this form must be YOUR own details, NOT Evolutionary Tutors'.
