Hi, I’m Calan and I graduated from Fort Street High School in 2024 with an ATAR of 93.65. I am currently studying a Bachelor of Engineering Honours at UNSW.
I love helping others and as a recent graduate, I understand the stress of HSC and its difficulties, and the amount of effort required to progress through this period. As a tutor I want to help make this process stress free while allowing each student to excel in all their subject areas. With my previous experience as a certificate 3 dance class instructor and student mentor, I am able to communicate and adapt my teaching style to tailor each lesson to individual students allowing for them to achieve high levels of success in their studies.
In my spare time I enjoy competing in a variety of sports including football and athletics, as well as playing with my cats, drawing, and spending time with friends and family.
I was tutored by Calan O’Dwyer for HSC Geography, and I can confidently say he made a massive difference to my preparation in a very short period of time. Even though I only began working with him close to the exams, Calan taught me an incredible amount in that limited time. My only regret is not having him as my tutor earlier. Calan’s biggest strength is the structure he gives his students. He clearly explains how to approach content, break down questions, and build strong, syllabus-linked responses. His analysis of my submitted short answer responses was invaluable. He did not just mark them; he showed me exactly why something worked or did not, and what exam markers actually look for. He is highly feedback orientated and genuinely invested in helping his students improve. Each session was adapted to my needs, whether it was filling knowledge gaps, fixing weaknesses, practising exam-style questions, or refining technique. Calan always tailored the meeting to suit my learning preferences and made sure I finished each session with complete clarity. I am extremely grateful for the support he provided. I would strongly recommend Calan O’Dwyer to any HSC Geography student looking for structured guidance, clear feedback, and rapid improvement.
Calan was my physics tutor this last year and while I initially struggled with the subject, lessons with him were easy to follow and challenged me on my weaknesses. I couldn’t have asked for a better tutor for the hsc.
