Hi, I'm Darren, co-owner of Evolutionary Tutors and a specialist HSC Standard Maths tutor with over 1,200 hours of tutoring experience. I hold a Bachelor of Civil Engineering (First Class Honours) and a Bachelor of Commerce from UNSW, and I currently work as a corporate professional at Deloitte ā which means I bring both strong analytical foundations and real-world perspective to everything I teach.Ā I also tutor HSCĀ Business Studies .
Standard Maths is often underestimated as a subject, but the students who perform best are those who combine solid method with consistent technique and smart exam strategy. Most students I work with aren't struggling because they lack ability ā they're struggling because they have gaps in foundational knowledge, inconsistent working, or no clear framework for approaching unfamiliar questions under pressure. My job is to fix that.
From our very first lesson, I focus on understanding where you are, where you need to be, and what specifically needs to change to close that gap. I review past assessments and identify the exact patterns holding your marks back, and we build a clear, personalised weekly plan so you always know what to focus on and why. One of the things I hear most from students and parents is that my resources and lesson structure make a real difference. I provide carefully prepared materials each week, so students aren't just working through generic textbook exercises ā they're practising the right things, in the right way, with clear feedback on what to fix. Parents often notice the shift in their child's attitude toward Maths: students finish lessons feeling positive, more confident, and genuinely clearer on what to do next.
I also believe tutoring should extend beyond the lesson itself. I make myself available between sessions to answer questions, provide additional support before exams, and check in on how students are tracking ā because the HSC is stressful enough without feeling like you're on your own between lessons.

After having Darren as my tutor for both Maths Standard and Business Studies throughout my HSC, I truly believe I would not have anywhere near the confidence or understanding of either subjects. i came across evolutionary tutors late in year 12 and i had natalie for english, darren for maths, isabella for cafs and sam for visual arts - they are all very understanding and great tutors who will all go out of their way to make sure you understand your subjects' content/syllabus and will construct very organized lesson plans and/or notes for each lesson and make sure that you get the most out of the tutoring sessions! they also provide general advice for exams and check in on your wellbeing before the start of each lesson as well as provide general advice which is always really helpful and kind, and i think that's what makes evolutionary tutors the perfect tutoring service, each lesson is always enjoyable but also productive and they also motivate and cheer you on for exams! each of my tutors for my subjects helped boosted my confidence and skills for the hsc and it was bittersweet after having last lessons with them, but they are amazing and i can't recommend them enough :)
